Association Of LG Vice Chairmen In Nigeria Examines Council Autonomy In Sustainable Grassroots Development

The Association of Local Government Vice Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGOVC) will be examining the popular issue of   local government autonomy and administration in Nigeria, and how it can be used in sustaining development in the grassroots.

The foregoing will be the focus as ALGOVC is set to host its 7th Annual National Conference and Awards/ Gala Night at 7pm at the NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja.

It is holding between 4th to 6th of December, 2024.

The conference will be centered around two pivotal themes: “Local Government Autonomy for Sustainable Food, Security, and Grassroots Development” and “Empowering Local Leaders through Digital Economy for Effective National Growth”.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON, will chair the occasion, while Hon. Aliyu Wakili Boya (MHR) is the Deputy Chairman. Other prominent personalities are also expected at the event.

This year’s Principal Host is Hon. Bello Lawal, National President ALGON, while the Chief Host is Aarebirin Hon. Princess (Dr.) Folashade Olabanji-Oba, the National Chairman of ALGOVC, and a committed grassroots player.

According to Aarebirin (Dr.) Hon. Folashade Olabanji-Oba, the National Chairman of ALGOVC, in a statement on Thursday, the event is poised to highlight the importance of local governance in national growth

“The event underscores the need for autonomy in local governance. It also highlights the role of grassroots leadership in addressing food security and fostering sustainable development. Additionally, the emphasis on the digital economy highlights the transformation of local governance systems to meet 21st-century challenges.”

“The ALGOVC Annual National Conference, which serves as training ground for council functionaries and Awards Night has become a cornerstone for celebrating and strengthening local governance in Nigeria.

“This it achieves by fostering collaboration among stakeholders and advocating for autonomy, ALGOVC continues to set the stage for impactful leadership and community growth in Nigeria.

“Human capacity development is one thing we must consistently work on,” Aarebirin Folashade Olabanji-Oba added.

Also in the statement, the Director – General, ALGOVC, Hon. Muktar Gora, said that:

“The conference will feature robust discussions, keynote addresses, and panels led by stakeholders in governance and community development.

“The emphasis is on  highlighting the importance of grassroots leadership, the event aims to foster solutions for challenges impacting local governments”, she said.

At the Gala Night, notable outstanding leaders and organizations will be recognized for their contributions to  grassroots development with the ALGOVC awards.
